CAREER

INTERNSHIP

What do past interns have to say of their experience at Singular?

Very rarely can you find an asset management firm with busy, experienced portfolio managers and associates as supportive and invested in your career and personal development as Singular. Apart from hands-on research and the opportunity to listen into conference and analyst calls, I find that the frequent feedback and in-depth post-presentation discussions are particularly valuable in learning how to shape your own opinion when assessing a company, as well as how to find a balance between fine detail and the bigger picture. My 10 weeks at Singular have been intense and challenging, but ultimately very rewarding. Highly recommend!

BSc Natural Sciences, University of Cambridge

Singular gave me an invaluable opportunity to delve into the asset management industry. Although I do not come from a finance background, I quickly overcame the learning curve with the support of my colleagues, especially my supervisor, who was patient, sincere, and always willing to support and teach me. The experience was truly enjoyable and fulfilling.
Andrea, Xin Yu

Economics, Minor in Data Science, Yale-NUS College

My time at Singular was nothing short of worthwhile. You will truly learn a lot and that will come naturally by the roadblocks, struggles and mistakes that you will face during this internship. You will be surrounded by a team of professionals who knows how to identify your strengths while also pushing the boundaries of what you think you know in order to create a better version of yourself. I entered Singular with no previous experience in the finance world with hopes to learn as much as I could during my time here and I’m glad to say that I achieved exactly that.

BA Behavioral Decision Sciences and Economics, Brown University

If you want an inside look at equity research, you can’t go wrong with Singular. You’re given a personal project from the first day, with an experienced mentor who checks your work regularly. If, like I did, you have no experience in finance, people at Singular are always willing to help. I learnt so much in the first few weeks at Singular – about accounting, finance, and industry trends. With Singular, you get the chance to dive deep into the fundamentals of a business, build a solid foundation in finance and gain feedback from experienced investment professionals. I can’t recommend it more.
Liang Yuan

BA Mathematics & Economics, Yale University

A wonderful opportunity to experience living the life of an investment analyst. I had the chance to speak directly with the analysts and the management team of the companies being researched upon. Confronted with a myriad of information every day, I learned how to identify and differentiate signals from the noise, which I wouldn’t have done without the unparalleled guidance from the SAM investment team.
Lyn Ing

Bachelor of Finance, University of Malaya

From the first day of the internship, I was given an opportunity to attend an investor relations conference call. I was encouraged to ask questions and participate actively in the discussions. The financial industry is broad, and so are the options when it comes to choosing careers in finance. The opportunities to attend meetings with outside parties and meeting with people from different types of finance careers were valuable for someone like me who aspire to work in the industry.

I am confident to say that the internship at SAM was an invaluable experience for me to build the foundation for investment as well as to understand the complex and broad financial industry.

My experience at Singular has been extremely rewarding. I feel that Singular gives the perfect balance between structure and autonomy. While I had to do a lot of my own independent research for my assignments, I also found that help was always there whenever I needed it. I have done many internships before this but I have never seen a company give as much attention to their interns as Singular does. The tightknit nature of the office culture also allows for meaningful conversations with other colleagues. Throughout my time here, I have learnt a lot about the finance industry and how investment analysts approach companies. The high expectations and friendly people make it the perfect professional environment to thrive in. My time here has been very worthwhile and I am confident that I will be able to apply the knowledge and skills that I have acquired at Singular in my future career.
Ryan Lee

I was given full autonomy to perform analysis on different companies and the team at Singular were always ready to help. The team gave valuable feedback which inspired me to think about a company from different perspectives and it really gave me an insight into how investment professionals assess companies. The learning curve is no doubt very steep, but the experience here is definitely worthwhile. I would highly recommend this internship programme to anyone who wants to learn meaningful and impactful skills and knowledge about finance and investment.

My time at Singular has been extremely eye-opening, informative, and challenging. The learning curve when you first enter the company can be very steep and daunting. But as long as you adopt the perseverance and the will to learn, the journey to the end result is nothing short of satisfying. I would recommend anyone who has an interest to enter the world of finance to apply for an internship at Singular as it is the perfect stepping stone.

While it is common to find everyone speaking highly of SAM internship (and I absolutely agree with the fundamental researching projects, broad exposure, timely feedback, etc.), I would like to highlight on how supportive and welcoming the team is for each individual. While meeting the requirements is the bottom line but gaining an overall understanding of you as a human matters even more. As long as you are interested to explore opportunities within this industry, I strongly suggest you, click on the application link, join the team and experience it yourself.

I am grateful for the internship experience given to me by Singular Asset Management. As a finance major, it was important that I was able to apply my skills in work and I was able to do so here at Singular. My ability to understand companies and business models were further improved by feedbacks given by fellow investment analysts and also questions posed to me during my presentation. I also appreciate the responsibilities given to interns. I would recommend this internship if you are passionate about companies and is driven to understand what makes businesses good.
Zhun Yan

Bachelor of Science in Economics, University of Pennsylvania

My experience in Singular Asset Management has been nothing short of wonderful. While this wasn’t my first internship experience, it is the best one yet. Everyone at Singular were approachable and were more than willing to entertain us despite just being interns. In addition, the work given was meaningful and contributed a lot to my own learning experience. Additionally, the team actively incorporated our feedback. Despite the complications arising from Covid-19, Singular still carried on with the internship program, and made various changes to make the work from home experience just as meaningful for the interns here.
Daniel Foo

Bachelor of Business, Banking and Finance Specialisation Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

As a chemical engineering student, I am extremely grateful to have spent my two months as an intern at Singular. After this experience, I have learned to read beyond the numbers, understand the stories, performing the analysis, and structuring the presentation to inform the investment team on ASEAN equity. More importantly, I am clearer than ever about my future pathways, and that’s exactly what I set out to accomplish this year! If you are someone sharp, willing to learn, and keen to have a go at finance, I couldn’t recommend applying for the internship program at Singular enough!
Cha Sheng

BA and Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering, University of Cambridge

Singular’s internship programme is a great opportunity to experience what it’s like being a buy-side investment analyst. I was in awe with the autonomy that was granted to an intern like myself – carrying out my own research projects, asking any questions that I have during conference calls, and pitching my investment thesis to the investment team. Through the deep dives, I was able to refine my analytical framework and develop a newfound understanding of the investment world. I am grateful to the mentors who have motivated and pushed me for improvement, and though as busy as they are, still managed to make time for me.

Bachelor of Economics and Finance, Tsinghua University

Singular has provided me with a clear picture on what Equity Research entails. I enjoy the autonomy I am given to work on my projects whilst receiving adequate support from my mentors. I am happy that this has been a fruitful learning experience for me.
